Policy Dialogue and Exhibition Unites Stakeholders for a Greener, Bluer Economy

Stakeholders from across the Niger Delta converged in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for a two-day Policy Dialogue and Exhibition on the Blue and Green Economy, aimed at advancing sustainable development, promoting organic agriculture, and influencing climate-resilient policy reform at all levels of governance.

Held from June 3 to 4, 2025, the event brought together representatives from government ministries, international development partners, farmers, business leaders, traditional institutions, and civil society organisations.

The dialogue, convened under our Danish-funded project “Advancing Community Capacity to Mitigate Climate Change Impacts and Develop Green and Blue Economy in the Niger Delta,” featured engaging panels, interactive exhibitions, and community-led sessions highlighting the economic and ecological potential of organic farming, renewable energy, aquaculture, and climate-smart practices. Attendees explored strategies to close market gaps, enhance export readiness, and develop an advocacy roadmap to push for supportive policy changes.

Speaking on behalf of the Embassy of Denmark in Nigeria, Senior Project Manager Hilda Ayejimiwo reaffirmed the embassy’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development in Nigeria’s coastal regions.

Representatives from the Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, Commerce, and the newly created Ministry of Blue and Marine Economy delivered insights into government mandates and ongoing efforts to mainstream green and blue economy principles.

The exhibition segment, formally launched by Professor Beke Tubokiye Sese, Commissioner for Agriculture, Bayelsa State, showcased innovations in organic produce, eco-friendly processing, and community-led sustainability models.

Participants engaged in advocacy planning, panel discussions on policy gaps, and forward-looking sessions on climate change impacts, export opportunities, and community empowerment.
