Training in Deghele/Ogiedi Community Concludes with Emphasis on Advocacy, Stakeholder Engagement

With enlightening conversations on advocacy, sustainable business development, and successful community engagement, the extensive three-day training session in Delta State’s Deghele/Ogiedi community has come to an end. In order to support community-driven efforts for sustainable growth within the green and blue economy, the event gathered together local leaders and specialists, who addressed solutions to mitigate the severe effects of climate change.

Under the direction of Mr. Isu Menidin, the last training day started with a summary of the previous day’s events. Menidin urged attendees to consider the main takeaways from Day 2, which included the fundamentals of engaging stakeholders, methods for spotting long-term business prospects, and crucial abilities in marketing, record-keeping, packaging, and business planning.

Mrs. Becky Ebojoh, Head of Public Relations at Delta Broadcasting Service and an agro-allied products consultant, delivered an impactful session on advocacy. Ebojoh underscored the goals and objectives of advocacy, exploring various methods such as media-based outreach, formal representations, rallies, and conventions. She provided practical strategies for impactful advocacy, focusing on setting clear goals, conducting in-depth research, building collaborative relationships, and leveraging media for positive social change.

An important community outreach session was led by Mr. Dauseye Torki, a specialist in environmental sustainability and community development. Torki emphasized the value of community outreach and extension agents, characterizing them as essential community members who provide support and education. He presented the fundamentals of extension work, stressing the importance of careful planning and assessment, communication skills, and trust-building as essential components of successful community access and participation.

The event concluded with interactive sessions, allowing participants to ask questions and discuss the day’s topics, deepening their understanding of sustainable business and advocacy techniques. This three-day training marks a significant milestone in empowering Deghele/Ogiedi community members with the knowledge and skills to drive sustainable development across Delta State.
