Press Release: AAPW Marks World Nature Conservation Day, Advocates for Sustainable Practices in the Niger Delta

In commemoration of World Nature Conservation Day, Academic Associates PeaceWorks (AAPW) reaffirms our unwavering commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. This day serves as a vital reminder of the importance of preserving our natural resources and promoting sustainable practices for the well-being of future generations.

The Niger Delta continues to face severe environmental degradation due to decades of oil exploration, industrial pollution, and unsustainable practices. These activities have devastated ecosystems and severely impacted the livelihoods and health of local communities. As an organization dedicated to peacebuilding and sustainable development, AAPW recognizes the urgent need for collaborative efforts to restore and protect our region.

Executive Director of Academic Associates PeaceWorks (AAPW), Dr Judith Burdin Asuni, has affirmed that the important necessity of preserving our natural environment is poignantly brought to light on World Nature Conservation Day, as the effects of environmental deterioration are extensive and profound in the Niger Delta. AAPW is committed to addressing these environmental challenges by promoting environmental awareness, supporting conservation projects, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a balanced and equitable approach to natural resource management.

We call upon all stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector partners, civil society organisations, and community members, to join hands in protecting the Niger Delta’s natural heritage. By working together, we can develop and implement strategies that promote sustainable development, mitigate environmental degradation, and preserve the region’s biodiversity for future generations.

AAPW advocates for international collaboration, extensive policy changes, community involvement, corporate responsibility, and funding for research and development to alleviate environmental disasters, particularly in the Niger Delta. AAPW remains steadfast in its mission to promote peace and sustainable development through advocacy, education, and collaboration.

On this World Nature Conservation Day, we call on all to unite in our commitment to nature conservation and work together to build a sustainable world for generations to come.
